Who we are

The Bar Register brings together legal professionals, researchers and technology specialists committed to improving access to accurate information about pupillage, Bar training and legal careers. Our platform combines independent legal research with responsible artificial intelligence to help aspiring barristers make informed decisions throughout their journey.

Md Shafiqur Rahman is Founder & Legal Research Director. Rashik Ishrak Nahian is Director of Artificial Intelligence & Technology. Md. Salahuddin Mahmud is Senior Adviser, Bar Training & Transferring Qualified Lawyer Exemption Guidance. Within The Bar Register, he provides guidance to applicants seeking exemptions from Bar training requirements under the Bar Standards Board's published framework, including applications by transferring qualified lawyers. He helps candidates understand the relevant rules, organise supporting evidence, and assess application readiness. Decisions on exemptions remain solely the responsibility of the Bar Standards Board.

PupilPath by The Bar Register is an independent research and planning project. It is not a chambers, recruitment agency, university, the Bar Standards Board or the Pupillage Gateway.

Why it was created

Pupillage, accessibility and transferring-lawyer information is spread across chambers websites, directories, regulatory guidance and recruitment systems. PupilPath brings those research routes into one structured journey while preserving the distinction between current vacancies, historical information and unverified records.

Editorial Policy

How information is researched and corrected.

Sources

Priority is given to official Pupillage Gateway adverts, chambers’ official websites, the Bar Standards Board, GOV.UK and published Legal 500 London Bar profiles. The UK chambers directory also uses organisation and member-practice fields derived from the BSB Authorised Practising Barristers register. Historical directories are labelled as historical.

Update frequency

Live vacancies are checked daily by the PupilPath vacancy monitor during active recruitment periods. Directory profiles are reviewed when a source changes or a correction is received. Every material record displays an evidence status or review date where available.

Verification process

1. Identify the organisation using its published name.
2. Connect the record to an official or authoritative source.
3. Record the practice area, route, deadline or accessibility claim without expanding beyond the source.
4. Label current, historical and unverified evidence separately.
5. Ask users to verify the live advert before acting.

Corrections

A correction should identify the chamber, disputed field, supporting official URL and requested change. Corrections are reviewed against the source; the record and review date are then updated. Send corrections to thebarregister@gmail.com.

This notice describes the current site. It must be reviewed if accounts, analytics, cloud CV analysis or a contact database are introduced.

Data controller and contact

PupilPath is operated by Md Shafiqur Rahman. Privacy, correction and deletion enquiries can be sent to thebarregister@gmail.com.

PupilPath Adviser

Questions entered in the adviser are sent to PupilPath’s secure server endpoint. When live conversational AI is configured, the question and a limited selection of relevant directory evidence are processed by OpenAI to generate the answer. Do not enter medical details, confidential case information, complete CVs or other unnecessary personal data. When live AI is unavailable, the adviser uses predefined on-site guidance. Adviser conversations are not presented as legal advice and are not used to submit applications or join communities automatically.

CV and cover-letter matching

Documents uploaded to the Match Lab are read and scored in your browser. Their text is not intentionally uploaded to PupilPath’s servers or retained by the application. Do not upload documents on a shared device unless you control the session.

Contact and CV Building submissions

These forms use FormSubmit as an email relay. When you submit, FormSubmit and the recipient email service process the form fields and any attachment so the team can receive and answer the request. Only send information needed for the requested support. You may request deletion of a received enquiry by emailing the same address, subject to legal retention requirements.

Device storage

Your shortlist and cookie choice are stored in your browser’s local storage. You can remove them using the site’s clear controls or your browser settings.

Accounts, marketing and analytics

There are currently no user accounts, marketing mailing list or optional analytics. If introduced, this notice and the consent controls must be updated before collection begins.

Hosting information

The hosting provider may process ordinary technical request and security information required to deliver the site over HTTPS and protect the service. External websites process data under their own privacy notices when you follow a link.

Rights and deletion requests

UK data-protection rights may include access, correction, erasure, restriction, objection and complaint to the Information Commissioner’s Office, subject to the law and applicable exemptions. Because Match Lab CV text stays on your device, PupilPath cannot delete a document it never received. Clear the text, shortlist and browser storage on your device.

Cookie Policy

Necessary storage only.

The present site does not set advertising or optional analytics cookies. It uses browser local storage for the shortlist and cookie choice. This is necessary to remember settings requested by the user. The cookie banner states that optional analytics are off.

If analytics, embedded media or advertising tools are introduced, PupilPath must audit them, explain their purposes and lifetimes, and obtain valid consent before non-essential storage is set.

No guarantee

Scores and rankings do not predict an interview, offer, pupillage or tenancy. PupilPath does not guarantee accuracy, completeness, availability or a particular outcome.

External links

External sites are independent and may change without notice. Check every deadline, award, practice area, application route and adjustment process on the recruiting organisation’s current official material.

User responsibilities

Users must submit truthful applications, protect confidential information, comply with each recruitment process, avoid automated or unsolicited mass applications, and make their own decisions.

Copyright

PupilPath’s original design, explanatory text and scoring presentation are protected. Source organisations retain rights in their own names, adverts and materials. Limited personal research use is allowed; republication or commercial extraction requires permission and respect for third-party rights.

Availability and changes

Features, evidence and these terms may be updated. Material changes should be dated and communicated through the site.

Accessibility Statement

Accessibility is a core product requirement.

PupilPath aims to meet WCAG 2.2 AA principles: perceivable content, keyboard operation, understandable language and robust compatibility. The interface uses labelled fields, visible focus, semantic headings, high contrast, reduced-motion support and responsive layouts.

Known limitations

• Third-party chambers and directory pages are outside PupilPath’s control.
• PDF extraction quality depends on the document structure; scanned image-only PDFs may not produce text.
• Some very long practice-area lists may require additional navigation on small screens.

Report the page, device, browser, assistive technology and barrier to thebarregister@gmail.com. An alternative format or reasonable communication method should be offered where practicable.

Community Rules

Help safely. Challenge respectfully.

1. Respect: no harassment, discrimination, intimidation or personal attacks.
2. No abuse: threats, hate speech, doxxing and sexual harassment lead to removal.
3. No spam: no repeated promotion, mass messaging, paid application services or unsolicited recruitment.
4. No misinformation: label opinion and historical material; link to the current official source for deadlines and rules.
5. Confidentiality: do not share assessment questions, private documents, personal data or privileged/confidential information.
6. Safeguarding: report concerning conduct to moderators; emergencies belong with the appropriate emergency service.
7. Peer support, not legal advice: community messages are not professional advice.

WhatsApp’s own terms and privacy rules also apply. The Community join link is public, so administrators should review membership requests, remove abuse promptly and reset the invite link if it is misused. A separate Channel link can be added later when supplied.
